A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
March 21, 2011
March is nearly over and I am sure many of you are wondering what is going on with
our roads? I am writing this message to let you all know just that. We (EPOA) are
currently at a stand still. In January 4 new members were elected to the board. This
caused an up-rising in the road crew. Many key participants have quit the crew,
because of the tactics used by the new members to vote themselves on. This is
very unfortunate, as one of those that left was the man that led the crew and the
grader operator. I am currently trying to put a new crew together but it isn’t going
well at all. This means we may have to go back to using private contractors. As I
have said before, contractors are very expensive and problematic. For sure using a
private contractor means there will be no culverts repaired, no private roads bladed
as we mentioned, no dust control and the end of reconstructing of our roads, as has
been done the last two years.
We will get a grading done prior to the monsoon season, I hope. At this point I
cannot give a date as to when the road work will occur. It will be the main topic of the
April board meeting. Please plan to attend; it is the 11th of April at 7 pm. Your
participation in the association is vital; I truly believe this situation could have been
avoided if more residents became involved. We have tried for years to expand the
road crew, but to no avail and with a small pool of workers it only takes a couple to
bring it to an end. I cannot force people to attend meetings or volunteer to work, but
a volunteer crew is essential to our community if we want long lasting, passable,
dust free roads. The only other alternative is to raise dues to 3 or 4 times what we
pay now. Personally I do not want that to happen.
I think an important lesson can be learned from this situation and that is for you as
members realize the need to become involved, learn who is truly working for all our
best interests and who is not. You should also insure that if you give a proxy to
someone be sure they are voting the way you want not the way they want. I believe
a note on the proxy regarding its use can be made to insure your voice is heard! Don’
t get me wrong, proxies are a good thing if you are sure the person will vote as you
ask , if not sure then come to the meetings yourself or send them to the board with
voting instructions.
As always I would like to invite you to become more active in your community. It
requires very little time and effort but pays off in a big way. If anyone has any
solutions to our dilemma, wants to volunteer (especially if you can operate a grader)
please feel free to contact me or the board, or better yet come to the April meeting. I
am always open to suggestions.
Sincerely,
Joe Terrible
EPOA President
